University of Utah After a brief period of teaching in Layton he began selling life insur- once for the New York Life Insurance Co where he was mode manager in 1933 and promoted to Inspector of Agencies in 1934 He was awarded the Certified Life Underwriter degree being the first Utahn to earn this degree He served as President of the Salt Lake Exchange Club In 1938 Elected as President of the Salt Lake Association of Life Underwriters Elder Sill served an IDS mission in the Southern States Mission He was the youngest member to be called to the North Davis Stake High Council In 1934 he and his companion moved to their present residence where two years later he was called as bishop of the newly created Garden Park Ward a building that he was instrumental in construction He served as bishop for 10 years and then called in 1946 to the Bonneville Stake High Council In 1951 he became a member of the Deseret Sunday School Union General Board a position he held until 1954 when he was called as an Assistant to the Council of Twelve Apostles He was sustained as a member of the 1st Quorum of Seventies in October 1976 received Emeritus status in September 1978 and faithfully remained at the Church offices until 1988 at which time he retired to his home where many volunteers assisted him with his writing He was a prolific writer having authored and published 38 volumes along with numerous other manuscripts yet to be published He was probably most well known for the 17 years (1960-1977) he performed as the voice for KSI's program Sunday Evening from Temple Square where he extended many examples of faith and leadership He was also awarded the Carnegie Hero Foundation Medal of Honor for saving a 13-year-old boy from drowning in the ocean Member of the University of Utah West Jordan on May 27 1994 Born December 31 1921 in Salt Lake City a daughter of Rudolf Theodore Olsen and Lenora Whitby She was raised in Pocatello Idaho with her six brothers and enjoyed a rich musical experience in her high school years at Pocatello High School soloing with the school choir and girls sextet She sang lead in her school operetta "Swetthearts" Mel high school graduation she went to California to pursue further voice training She sang lead roles in the "Deseret Song with the Desert Players in Victorville California She spent many years singing for church community and school functions As a wife she loved and supported her husband in his educational professional and spiritual pursuits She found great joy in serving with him in the Jordan River LDS Temple As her husband served as a counselor in the temple presidency with Elder Burke Peterson she was privileged to be an assistant temple matron with Sister Brookie Peterson from 1985 to 1987 She cherished her callings in the LDS Church serving as her ward Relief Society president twice a counselor in her stoke Relief Society presidency a teacher a temple worker and always showing compassion and love in her service to others She was a loving and caring friend to all She married Hyrum William Loutensock Jr of Glendale California in Carlsbad New Mexico on February 3 1945 with the marriage solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 23 1945 Together they enjoyed a nch and fulfilling life full of love for one another Her husband preceded her in death six months earlier on November 26 1993 Both passed away of cancer As a mother she bore five children four of which have preceded he in death She was a loving mother always put'ong the needs of her children before her own Srie loved her children and grandchildren very much She always encouraged them to succeed in whatever they did She Is survived by her son David Loutensock his wife Dorothy and her five grandchildren: David Shawn Eric Joseph and Jennifer of West Jordan Also survived by a foster daughter Virginia Andrews of Salt Lake City and her two children Stacie Webb and Rick Cannon Also survived by five of her six brothers: Ronald Olsen Salmon Idaho Oval Olsen and Rex Olsen Pocatello Idaho James Olsen and Mas Olsen Castro Valley She went with a glad heart and looked forward to a grand reunion with her husband and four children:
