Slow Cooker Mississippi Pot Roast Recipe

This recipe for Mississippi Pot Roast is so easy to make and is my go to when I have a pot roast to cook.

Pot roast has always been a dish that I have avoided cooking. I always ended up with a dry roast and that is not something that anyone wants to eat for dinner.

It wasn’t until a friend of mine made a slow cooker pot roast and told me to try it that I found a pot roast recipe that I enjoyed. That recipe is this Slow Cooker Pot Roast Recipe.

I have no idea where she got it from, or how she found it. All I know is that she had the ingredients list and told me it was called Mississippi Pot Roast and it was delicious.

Thisslow cooker recipeis also easy to double if you are like me and keep easy to grab dinners in the freezer. I make a double batch, have one for dinner, and then freeze the other portion to be able to grab and heat up another time when I need a quick dinner when I haven’t made a plan.

Variations And Substitutions

Ranch Seasoning mix. The easiest way is to use the packet ranch, but if you are wanting to skip having additives in your food then use homemade ranch seasoning.

Au Jus Mix. This is the packets of Au Jus gravy mix you find in the grocery store. If you can not find it or do not have it on hand you can use a packet of Onion soup mix and 4 tablespoons of beef bullion. You can also use powdered brown gravy mix in place of au jus packet mix.

Add veggies. You can add diced onions and diced bell peppers along with the pepperoncini peppers.

Butter. I use salted butter but you can also use unsalted butter.

Chuck Roast. The most commonly used cut for this recipe is a chuck roast. Chuck roast comes from the shoulder area of the cow, and it has a good amount of marbling and connective tissue, which breaks down during the slow cooking process, resulting in a moist and tender roast.

Brisket.Brisket is another flavorful and well-marbled cut that can work well in the slow cooker. It may require a slightly longer cooking time compared to chuck roast to become tender, but it can yield delicious results.

Bottom Round Roast.Bottom round roast is leaner than chuck roast but can still become tender when slow-cooked properly. It may not be as flavorful as chuck roast or brisket, so you might want to compensate by adding more seasoning or broth to the recipe.

Top Round Roast.Similar to bottom round roast, top round roast is leaner and less tender than chuck roast but can still be used in the recipe. Again, you may need to adjust the cooking time and add extra seasoning or liquid to enhance the flavor.
