Digital registration with ID

Do you have an appointment at the outpatient clinic in Isala? Here you will find information about the registration.

At the registration column(s) in the Central Hall, you register with your ID (passport, driving license or identity card) and not with a hospital ID card or appointment card. The registration column has a large video display which shows clearly, and step by step, how to register. You operate the device by touching the screen with your finger.

Watch the video explaining the central reception and digital registration (voice-over in Dutch). Or read the five steps on this page.

Five easy steps

  • Step 1: scan your ID
You scan your ID in the slot of the registration column. On the basis of the Citizen Service Number (BSN), your personal information will be retrieved. If you come for an appointment for a child, then scan the ID of the child. For based on the identification requirement for the healthcare sector, everyone from zero years of age must be able to identify themselves at a hospital. If he or she does not yet have an ID, please report to the Central Desk. The screen will also refer you to the Central Desk if your data is incorrect or unknown to us.
  • Step 2: check the data
After scanning, make sure the information is correct. You also indicate whether you want to receive a text message when it is time to walk to the waiting area (20 minutes prior to your appointment). The registration columns at Isala in Kampen and Heerde do not offer this option.
  • Step 3: appointment ticket
All appointment details appear on the screen. The column prints out an appointment ticket stating: time of the appointment, if the doctor is running late, the name of the department and the route. At Isala in Kampen and Heerde, you will not receive an appointment ticket.
  • Step 4: going to the outpatient clinic
Twenty minutes before the appointment, you go to the outpatient clinic where you are expected. At Isala in Kampen and Heerde, you are obviously already at your destination, and you can skip steps 4 and 5. Arriving at the appropriate floor, you can again see the registration column as in the Central Hall. At this column, simply hold the bar-code of your appointment ticket to the scanner and you will see, on the screen, which waiting area you must go to. The consulting doctor or nurse will then fetch you from the waiting area.
  • Step 5: follow-up appointments
If you have several appointments on the same day, they also appear on your appointment ticket.

Follow-up appointments at Isala Zwolle

  • Follow-up appointment in the new main building on the same floor and wing
After your first appointment with the doctor, you rescan the bar-code of your appointment ticket at the hanging registration column in the outpatient clinic. The display shows the data of the waiting area where you can then go. The doctor or nurse with whom you have with an appointment now knows that you have arrived. He or she fetches you from the waiting area.
  • Follow-up appointment in the new main building in another department
After your first appointment, go to the department where you have your next appointment (see appointment ticket). You scan the bar-code again on that floor at the registration column hanging by the elevators. You will again see the number of the waiting area where you can go and take a seat. The consulting doctor or nurse will then fetch you from the waiting area.
  • Follow-up appointment in another building of Isala
On your appointment ticket, you can find which of the Isala buildings you must go to for your follow-up appointment. You again register at that building with your ID if there is a registration column. If there is no column, please report to the desk.

Isala helps remind you of your appointment

An appointment at the outpatient clinic, is, of course, not for nothing, so you wouldn't want to forget it. Therefore, it is now possible to get a reminder by text message or email two weekdays before an appointment. This extra service applies to all specialisms at Isala. In order to use this service, please send us your mobile phone number and email address.

You can register your details as follows:

  • Via the 'MijnIsala' section: go to MijnIsala.nl, log in with your DigiD, go to 'Persoonlijke gegevens' [Personal data]. Click on the 'Wijzigen' [Change] button at the bottom right of the screen and customize your data. Click on 'Gereed' [Completed]. Your data is changed.
  • By filling in a card: you can request this from and return it to the outpatient clinic or the Central desk in the Central Hall.

Your mobile phone number and email address will not be used for other (commercial) purposes.

Schedule your own appointment

As of 1 February 2016, you can schedule your own (follow-up) appointment at Isala. On a day and time that suits you best. You can do this by calling the outpatient clinic or - if possible for your appointment - via the 'MijnIsala' section. Isala will introduce this on a phased basis for all outpatient clinics in Zwolle, Kampen and Heerde.

Why make the appointment yourself?
You are accustomed to always receiving a letter by post containing the date and time of the appointment. That was determined by Isala. That moment was often not convenient and then you had to call us to reschedule the appointment. Now you determine the time of the appointment yourself.

For what specialisms does this apply?
You can soon make your own appointment in all outpatient clinics in Zwolle, Kampen and Heerde. We want to perfect every detail of this new method, which is why this is not introduced in all outpatient clinics at the same time. We are doing this on a phased basis. Isala does not want the general practitioner or patient to have to remember what specialism has already been changed to the new method. Therefore, the patient message will always clearly state how to make the appointment. You will get this message immediately upon referral from your general practitioner or later by email.

How does it work?

  • Step 1
Your general practitioner refers you to a specialist. You will then immediately get a patient message or a referral letter from your GP or an e-mail at a later time. This clearly explains how to make the appointment yourself.
  • Step 2
Two weekdays after your visit to the general practitioner, you have two options:
    • You can call the outpatient clinic. You can find the phone number in the patient message. One of our staff members will then schedule a suitable date and time with you.
    • Via the 'MijnIsala' section, you have access to some of your personal medical information and appointments at Isala. You can also make certain appointments at Isala yourself online. The patient message will show whether this is possible for your appointment. Then go to MijnIsala.nl, log in with your DigiD, fill in your details and go to 'Afspraak maken' [Make an appointment].

Have you not made an appointment yet?
For every referral that is made by the general practitioner, Isala keeps track of whether the patient actually contacts the outpatient clinic. If this has not been done, Isala will call the patient. If we have your mobile phone number and/or e-mail address, we will send you a digital reminder. In this way, we ensure that patients who do not make the appointment themselves, do not miss their examination or treatment.

Consultation with the medical specialist

The medical specialist will give you information about your disease or condition, the proposed examination, treatment or surgery, medications and any side effects. Together with your consulting doctor, you then decide about the examination and/or treatment you are undergoing. In order to do this, you must have the correct information and you must also understand it, because without information you cannot consent to an examination and treatment. If the explanation given by the medical specialist is not clear, or if he uses terms you do not know, feel free to ask for further explanation.

Tips to prepare for the consultation

Before the consultation

  • Make sure you know in advance what you want to say. It is enlightening to your doctor if you say clearly what you think and what you want.
  • Think beforehand about what you want to know and write down your questions in order to be sure that you do not forget anything.
  • Take a family member or close friend with you, someone who can help and with whom you can talk about what was said. Two hear better than one.

During the consultation

  • Ask for an explanation if something is not clear, for example, when medical terms are used.
  • Ask your questions at an opportune moment, and not just before you must leave.
  • Ask if there is an information brochure or website about your illness, examination and/or treatment. You can also ask if there is a patient organization for people with the same disease or condition.
  • Discuss with your doctor how to reach him or someone else (for example, a nurse) to discuss any questions you may have.
  • Make sure you take plenty of time to think carefully about the proposed examination and/or treatment. You decide whether you give consent for the examination and/or treatment. You can always, at a later time, inform the doctor of your decision.
  • At the end of the consultation, list the key points once again. For example: "Is this what you said ..?" In this way, you can check if you have understood everything well.

Questions that you can ask

  • What is wrong with me and what is the cause of my complaint?
  • What happens if I do not have the examination and/or treatment?
  • What examination and/or treatment does the doctor want to do and for what purpose?
  • What are the risks and consequences of the examination and/or treatment?
  • What other examinations and/or treatments are possible and what are the risks involved?
  • When will the examination and/or the treatment take place?
  • How long does the examination and/or treatment take?
  • When and how do I get the results of the examination and/or treatment?
  • What can or should I not do after the examination and/or treatment and how will I feel?
  • What are my prospects?
  • What are the consequences for me in everyday life?
  • How long will it take before the symptoms are reduced?

Further testing

It is possible that your medical specialist may refer you for further tests to another department of our hospital. Thus, perhaps you need to have an X-ray at the X-ray department. You may also be sent to the laboratory for a blood test. We will try to schedule this test immediately after your visit to the medical specialist. If that is not possible, another appointment will be made for you.

Test results

If your general practitioner referred you to a department at our outpatient clinic for tests (such as the X-ray department or laboratory), your own general practitioner will inform you of the results.

If you were referred by a medical specialist, you will get the results of the tests from him or her. This is done by telephone or during your follow-up appointment at the outpatient clinic. At that time, any necessary further treatment will be discussed.
